Hydro-power plants in north-central Thanh Hoa province have contributed VND500 billion ($20.9 million) to the provincial budget every year, according to local authorities.
There are now eleven hydro-power plants operating in Thanh Hoa.
The plants have also helped boost industrial production value and infrastructure development and generated jobs.
Plants such as Cua Dat and Trung Son have also helped prevent flooding and supplied water to lowland areas, contributing to mitigating saltwater intrusion in coastal areas.
Thanh Hoa has huge potential in hydro power development, with a total capacity of 3 billion kWh of electricity a year.
More than VND23 trillion ($962 million) has been invested in developing hydro-power plants in the province since 2017.
