Hyundai maintains lead in 2021 auto sales
Top 5 unchanged from 2020, but in different order.
The Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA), VinFast, and TC Motor have released figures on automobile sales in 2021, in which Hyundai was the best-selling brand, followed by Toyota, Kia, VinFast, and Mazda.
Hyundai sold 70,518 units, down 13.3 per cent year-on-year but retaining its leading position in the market. Its Accent, Santa Fe, and Grand i10 were among the top 10 best-selling models in the country.
Second-placed Toyota sold 69,002 units, including the Lexus. The Vios was its best-selling model, with 19,933 units sold. Its factories in Vietnam manufactured 30,330 vehicles over the past year.
South Korean auto maker Kia was third, selling 45,523 units, or 6,352 more than in 2020. Its best-selling model was the Seltos, with 16,122 units sold.
VinFast rose to fourth position on the list, selling 35,723 cars in 2021, including 24,128 of the Fadil, 6,330 of the Lux A2.0, 5,180 of the Lux SA2.0, and 85 of the VF e34. It posted growth of 21.2 per cent compared to 2020. It officially sold its electric VF e34 model last year and received pre-orders for the electric VF 8 and VF 9 models.
Fifth on the list, Mazda, sold 27,286 vehicles, down 4,938 units compared to 2020. It was closely followed by Mitsubishi, which sold a mere 43 fewer vehicles. Mazda’s best-selling model was the CX-5, with sales of 10,230 units.
Summarizing data from VAMA, VinFast, and TC Motor, the motor vehicle market posted total sales of some 410,390 units in 2021.
