Japanese, US universities to help train semiconductor engineers
Vietnam targets to train 50,000 semiconductor engineers.
The National Innovation Center (NIC) held a working session with representatives from Hiroshima University of Japan and Idaho University of the US in Hanoi on August 2 to discuss a program training semiconductor engineers for Vietnam.
The two universities are coordinating to train a special Bachelor of Semiconductor in English for four years. Under the plan, students will be trained at Hiroshima University during the first two years. In the third and fourth year of the program, they will be transferred to the University of Idaho and receive a degree from the University of Idaho.
Graduates will have opportunities to work in the field of semiconductor in Japan, US or Vietnam.
The program is scheduled to start from October, 2026.
The two universities proposed that Vietnam grants scholarships for 100-150 Vietnamese students to pursue the program.
Vietnam targets to train 50,000 engineers and experts to serve all stages of value chains in the semiconductor sector.
