New State President elected
General To Lam becomes the new President as a result of the National Assembly’s election on May 22.
General To Lam, Politburo member, Deputy to the 15th National Assembly (NA), former Minister of Public Security, was elected by the 15th NA as President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam on May 22.
With 472 “yes” votes out of 473 attending deputies, or 96.92% of the total number of NA deputies, the NA approved a resolution on the election, which took effect right after its approval.
The new President took the oath of office on the same day.
He vowed to be absolutely loyal to the Fatherland, to the people, and to the Constitution of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, striving to successfully complete the tasks assigned by the Party, State and people.
General To Lam, 67, a Politburo member since 2016, became Deputy Minister of Public Security in 2010 and then Minister of Public Security in 2016. He was relieved from the post of Minister of Public Security by the NA on May 21.
