The Ministry of Transport has submitted a pre-feasibility study report for the investment project to expand and upgrade the Cam Lo – La Son section of the North-South Expressway to the Prime Minister for review and approval.

The report proposes expanding the expressway section from two to four lanes over a length of 98.35 km,  including 36.3 km running through Quang Tri province and 62.05 km through Thua Thien Hue province.

The preliminary total investment for the project is estimated at VND6.488 trillion (over $257 million), including  VND5.078 trillion (nearly $202 million) for construction and equipment costs, VND84 billion ($3.3 million) for compensation and resettlement costs, and the remaining funds covering other expenses.

The ministry proposes implementing the project through public investment, with a plan to recover state capital after completion.

The project investment capital will be sourced from the Central budget's general contingency fund for the medium-term public investment plan for the period 2021-2025, totaling VND5.488 trillion; and from the medium-term public investment plan for the period 2026-2030, totaling VND1 trillion.

If approved by the Prime Minister, the project will be initiated in 2024 and be substantially completed in 2025.

According to the Ho Chi Minh Highway Project Management Board, as the Cam Lo - La Son Expressway section is being developed in a later phase, it will be upgraded to meet current expressway standards, with a 22-meter-wide roadway accommodating four lanes and two emergency lanes throughout its length.
