PM Chinh meets with visiting Mozambican President
Bilateral trade turnover in 2023 reached $550 million, three times higher than in 2022
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and visiting Mozambican President Filipe Jacinto Nyusi on September 9 discussed and agreed on specific measures to further enhance cooperation between the two countries, the Vietnam News has reported.
They also deliberated on implementing the outcomes of the earlier talks between Party General Secretary and President To Lam and President Filipe Jacinto Nyusi to strengthen bilateral relations.
In terms of politics, both sides agreed to continue increasing delegation exchanges at all levels through Party, State, National Assembly and Government channels to strengthen political trust and create new momentum for enhancing the bilateral cooperation.
They expressed delight at the positive development in economic and trade cooperation between the two countries, noting that bilateral trade turnover in 2023 reached $550 million, three times higher than in 2022.
PM Chinh suggested that the two countries promote the exchange of complementary goods, such as agricultural products, fertilizers, machinery, garments, footwear from Vietnam and coal, cashew nuts, and wood from Mozambique.
On this occasion, the PM thanked Mozambique and requested continued support and favorable conditions for the Movitel telecommunications joint venture, which includes the participation from Vietnam’s Viettel Group. He emphasized the importance of stable operations and business expansion to further contribute to the economic and social development of Mozambique.
Expressing strong agreement with the orientations and solutions proposed by PM Chinh, President Nyusi affirmed that he would direct the Government of Mozambique to coordinate with Vietnamese ministries, agencies and partners to improve the effectiveness of economic, trade and investment cooperation between the two countries. He also emphasized expanding cooperation in other areas such as education, health, digital transformation, processing and manufacturing.
The President highlighted his priority for agricultural and aquatic cooperation, expressing his hope that Vietnam will continue to share experiences and support Mozambique in improving its capacity to exploit and process aquatic products and develop aquaculture projects.
In 2025, Vietnam and Mozambique will celebrate the 50th founding anniversary of diplomatic relations.
