Polish Ambassador hands over AstraZeneca vaccines
The Polish Government has delivered over 500,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine to the Ministry of Health, which will soon be distributed to localities.
On August 23 in Hanoi, H.E. Wojciech Gerwel, Polish Ambassador to Vietnam, handed over 501,600 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine donated by the Polish Government to the Ministry of Health (MoH). Deputy Minister of Health Truong Quoc Cuong received the batch. Also in attendance was Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs To Anh Dung.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Ambassador Gerwel expressed sympathy with the government and people of Vietnam, especially cities and provinces that are hotspots for Covid-19. He also expressed his admiration for the effectiveness of the government’s efforts as well as the consensus of the people in implementing policies. Deputy Minister Cuong affirmed that the support will help Vietnam have more resources to fight the pandemic and strengthens the two countries’ diplomatic relations. He thanked the Polish Government and people and businesses in Poland for their past support.
The MoH will quickly distribute the batch of vaccines to localities, depending on actual needs.
Earlier, on August 17, the Polish Government announced the donation to Vietnam and also promised essential medical equipment worth $4 million, which will be transferred to the country in early September. Poland is also willing to pass on 3 million extra doses of Covid-19 vaccine.
This is the result of negotiations by the government, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, relevant agencies of the two countries, and the embassies of the two countries, as well as the active support of the Polish people.
