French Ambassador to Vietnam Olivier Brochet, and Mr. Jean-Alexandre EGEA, Head of the Economic Section at the French Embassy, along with a delegation from the French Embassy in Vietnam, recently had a working session with Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan, General Director of Vietnam Electricity (EVN) on potential cooperation in nuclear power between the two country.

During the meeting, the French side expressed its satisfaction with the strong, trustworthy, and long-standing cooperation between the two countries in general, and the French Embassy and EVN in particular.

Mr. Jean-Alexandre EGEA expressed his hope that the bilateral exchange of expertise would yield positive outcomes, thus contributing to Vietnam’s sustainable energy transition.

French Ambassador to Vietnam Olivier Brochet, for his part, highlighted potential cooperation between Vietnam and France in the field of nuclear power - an area in which, according to the ambassador,  France has accumulated decades of experience, successfully operating a network of nuclear power plants known for their safety, efficiency, and stability.

As one of the world’s leading countries in nuclear power development and management, France stands ready to share its expertise, transfer technology, and support Vietnam in its roadmap to systematically and sustainably research and develop nuclear energy, the French diplomat noted.

Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan expressed his deep gratitude to the French Embassy in Vietnam for its ongoing support for EVN, adding that EVN highly values France’s extensive experience in the nuclear power sector and looks forward to receiving further technical support and knowledge sharing from France.

The EVN leader also provided updates on the Bac Ai Pumped Storage Hydropower Plant Project, which was primarily financed by the French Development Agency (AFD). This reflects France’s strong commitment to accompanying Vietnam on its journey towards sustainable energy development, he said.

Mr. Tuan expressed his hope that the collaboration from an experienced partner like France would create a solid foundation for the future development of nuclear energy in Vietnam.
