Chu Khôi

Sugar output estimated at 6.79 tons per ha of sugarcane, higher than key producers in the region like Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines.

Sugar production for the 2023-2024 crop totaled over 1.1 million tons, up 18.4% compared to the previous crop, according to the Vietnam Sugarcane Association (VSA).

The sugar output reached 6.79 tons per ha, higher than other key producers in the region such as Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines.

Total harvested area of sugarcane was estimated at more than 163,000 ha, an increase of 11.4% against the previous crop.

The sugar industry has started to recover since 2021 after Vietnam applied measures against evasion of trade remedies on some imported sugar products.

The buying price of sugarcane from farmers also recovered to an average VND1.2-1.3 million ($48-52) per ton, soaring 152% compared to the 2019-2020 crop. This is a premise to motivate farmers to expand yield areas in the coming years.
