Tech diplomacy to be further promoted

Addressing a conference on international economic integration held in Hanoi on December 20, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh called for promoting tech diplomacy, with a particular focus on semiconductor, artificial intelligence, aerospace, marine space, and underground space, according to a report from the Government News.
According to the Government leader, to date, global tech giants such as Apple, Intel, Google, NVIDIA, Samsung, LG, Cadence, Qorvo, Marvell, and Siemens have invested in or expanded cooperation with Vietnam.
Apple has had 11 factories in Vietnam while Intel has expanded chip testing capacity in Ho Chi Minh City and Google has expanded AI training in the country.
Meanwhile, Vietnam and NVIDIA have signed an agreement on establishment of an AI Research and Development Center and an AI Data Center in the country.
LG planned to open its third Research and Development Center in Vietnam.
The PM also called for further reform of visa policies to facilitate inbound tourism and investments.
The Government requested authorities to accelerate substantial trade promotion activities and continue to diversify markets and supply chains, he added.
The Government leader tasked Vietnamese Ambassadors and heads of diplomatic missions abroad to continue efforts so that the U.S. would soon recognize Vietnam’s market economy status and ease restrictions on tech-exports to Vietnam; boost cooperation with China in railway connectivity; and cooperate with several Middle East countries in building an international financial center in Ho Chi Minh City, among others.
