Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung has signed Decision No. 2292/QD-BVHTTDL promulgating an action program on tourism development in the 2021-2025 period.

The most notable task in the program is the application of modern science and technology and the digital transformation of the tourism industry, contributing to fulfilling the goal of the “National digital transformation program to 2025 and orientation to 2030”. It is necessary to develop a national database on tourism and carry out an investigation, assessment, classification, and digitization of Vietnam’s tourism resources as well as form a digital information system on tourist areas, tourist attractions, and travel services. A digital information system on Vietnam’s tourism industry should be built in order to unify tourism figures at the central and local levels.

Smart tourism development projects and projects such as the smart tourism destination management model and the application of modern technology to develop smart software and utilities to support the management and service of tourists also need to be given focus.

To achieve the goals set, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has proposed that the government prioritize investment resources in the development of connected transport infrastructure for a number of national tourist sites in tourism development areas as well as increase investment in important transport connection infrastructure such as coastal road, maritime, and airport infrastructure, and connecting international routes to provinces with tourism development.

The ministry has also proposed that the government and localities prioritize allocating resources from the investment budget to develop community tourism in localities with tourism potential in remote, border, and maritime areas. In the period to 2025, priority should be given to investment resources to develop community-based tourism in a number of northern mountainous provinces, the central highlands, and the Mekong Delta.
