Trade robust at border gates with China

Customs clearance activities resumed earlier than scheduled at some border gates following the Tet holiday.

The border gate at Bac Luan 2 Bridge in Mong Cai city, northern Quang Ninh province, resumed customs clearance activities on February 12 after the Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday, five days earlier than scheduled.

Authorities handled export procedures for nearly 60 tons of live seafood heading to China on the first day, including 53.2 tons of crab and 4.4 tons of lobster, according to the Management Board of the Mong Cai International Border Gate.

In northern Lang Son province, customs clearance activities resumed at the Huu Nghi and Tan Thanh International Border Gates on February 14.

Trade continued throughout the holiday in northern Lao Cai province. In the first five days of the new year, total import and export revenue via the Kim Thanh 2 International Border Gate stood at nearly $13 million, a 3.5-fold increase compared to Tet last year. Exports were estimated at $12.2 million, a year-on-year increase of 319 per cent.

Total trade via border gates in Lao Cai during January totaled nearly $183 million.
