Transport Ministry determines to complete 3,000 km of expressways by 2025
Total length of expressways reaching nearly 2,100 km so far.
Minister of Transport Nguyen Van Thang asked investors, contractors, project management boards and localities to strive to accelerate expressway projects to achieve the target set by the Government to have 3,000 km of expressways by 2025.
At a meeting held by the ministry on October 10 to review the progress of expressway projects that are scheduled for completion in 2025, Minister Thang requested to take more drastic measures to tackle difficulties and obstacles facing the implementation of the projects.
Focus should be made on accelerating sub-projects of the North-South Expressway project, particularly ensuring supply of construction materials for the project, he said.
In August, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh launched a 500-day emulation campaign to complete 3,000 km of expressways by 2025.
So far, about 1,000 km of new expressways crossing 15 provinces and cities has been completed, raising the total length of such roads to nearly 2,100 km.
More than 1,700 km are under construction while work on another 1,400 km is about to start soon.
Those projects span 48 provincial-level localities nationwide.
