Travel on Mai Son - National Highway 45 and Phan Thiet - Dau Giay Expressways free initially
Two new expressways expected to open to traffic on April 29, with tolls to be collected from a later date.
Vehicles travelling on the Mai Son - National Highway No. 45 and Phan Thiet - Dau Giay Expressways will not have to pay tolls after they are put into operation later this month, according to the Ministry of Transport.
Tolls will be collected later, to ensure capital for the construction of key transport projects, the ministry said.
It will take time for the government to build a toll collection plan and seek National Assembly approval, so vehicles travelling along these expressways will be initially free from tolls.
The Mai Son - National Highway No. 45 and Phan Thiet - Dau Giay Expressways are sub-projects of the Eastern North-South Expressway and are scheduled to open to traffic on April 29.
The 63.4-km Mai Son - National Highway No. 45 Expressway crosses northern Ninh Binh province and north-central Thanh Hoa province. Construction cost an estimated VND12 trillion ($506 million).
In the initial phase, the expressway has four lanes that will allow vehicles to travel at a maximum speed of 80 km/h. Once fully completed, it will have six lanes, allowing a maximum speed of 120 km/h.
The 99-km Phan Thiet - Dau Giay Expressway, meanwhile, crosses southern Dong Nai province and south-central Binh Thuan provinces. Total investment was more than VND12.5 trillion ($527 million).
The expressway has four lanes, allowing vehicles to travel at a maximum speed of 120 km/h.
