Two scenarios identified for HCMC’s tourism industry in 2022
Scenarios for recovery differ based on success of pandemic prevention and control.
Ho Chi Minh City’s tourism industry posted many positive results during the recent Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday, and the city has developed two scenarios for it to develop even further over the course of this year, according to Mr. Le Truong Hien Hoa, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism.
Under the first scenario, with the pandemic well controlled around Vietnam, tourism activities will move to the “new normal”, with international visitors estimated at 3.5 million and domestic visitors 25 million for the year as a whole, 66.6 per cent increase against 2021 in the latter. Total revenue is estimated to reach VND97.7 trillion ($4.3 billion).
Under the second scenario, with the pandemic yet to be fully brought under control, domestic tourists are estimated to reach 18 million during the year, up 20 per cent against 2021. Total revenue is estimated at VND67.6 trillion ($2.9 billion).
Key tasks for 2022 include improving the effectiveness and efficiency of State management, maximizing the advantages, creating conditions for a healthy competitive environment for businesses, and encouraging the community to develop the tourism industry. The city will also apply technology in State management activities and in digitizing tourism business activities.
It will also strengthen domestic tourism promotions and participate in international tourism fairs in-person and online, organize annual tourism activities and events, and ensure compliance with pandemic prevention and control measures to ensure safety.
