Vietnam Hosts Pivotal Forum on ASEAN-Russia Economic Ties
Amid shifting global dynamics, a Hanoi forum will explore how Southeast Asia, emerging economies, and Russia can boost cooperation in trade, energy, and sustainable development.
The ASEAN Economic Cooperation Forum and Emerging Economies with the Russian Federation will convene in Hanoi on April 12, 2024, in both in-person and online formats.
The forum takes on added significance in the current context of global economic shifts and evolving geopolitical relationships.
Coinciding with key milestones, including the 30th anniversary of the Vietnam-Russia friendship treaty foundation, the 300th anniversary of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and the 50th anniversary of the University of Economics under Hanoi's National University, the forum will provide a platform for enhancing economic, trade, and investment cooperation between ASEAN, emerging economies, and Russia.
Discussions will focus on the evolving economic relationship between Vietnam, ASEAN, emerging economies, and Russia in light of globalization, sustainable development, and climate change response.
The forum aims to assess the current landscape and identify solutions for overcoming technical trade barriers. It will offer scientific, policy, financial, technical, and social strategies to foster sustainable development and green growth in Vietnam, ASEAN, emerging economies, and Russia.
Additionally, the forum will explore key areas and future prospects for strengthened economic, trade, and investment ties between the regions.
This year marks the 5th anniversary of the Russia-ASEAN Strategic Partnership. As the global economic system undergoes transformation, Russia seeks to bolster and diversify its trade and economic cooperation with ASEAN.
Priorities include food and energy security, the circular economy, environmental issues, economic digitalization, smart city development, and strengthened collaboration in science and education.
The forum's presentations will delve into a wide range of topics essential to the evolving relationship between ASEAN, emerging economies, and Russia.
These include ASEAN-Russia cooperation in the digital economy, the promotion of tourism partnerships, Russian support for the development of transport infrastructure in ASEAN and emerging economies, energy cooperation in a changing international landscape.
The audience will also be presented with topics on collaboration within the financial sector, the opportunities and risks of Vietnam-EAEU economic and trade cooperation under sanctions, and the exploration of smart city and sustainable development partnerships.
The forum is expected to generate policy recommendations to enhance the effectiveness of the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and Russia.
It will draw on the experiences of ASEAN and emerging economies regarding cooperation with Russia, and highlight Vietnam's role in bridging cooperation among these stakeholders. The ultimate goal is to improve collaboration mechanisms within the new international context.
The forum will take place from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on April 12, 2024, at the International Conference Room 801, Building E4, University of Economics - Hanoi National University, 144 Xuan Thuy, Cau Giay, Hanoi. An online participation option via Zoom will also be available.
