Vietnam working to accelerate digital transformation
Prime Minister discusses Vietnam’s digital transformation process at ITU Digital World 2021 event.
Vietnam is focusing on the development of digital transformation in order to ensure a normal state of operations in the digital space as well as to contribute to economic recovery, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh told the ITU Digital World 2021 event, hosted by Vietnam on October 12.
The government considers digital infrastructure, data infrastructure, and national digital platforms as key to accelerating the national digital transformation roadmap. It believes that Vietnamese digital technology enterprises will play an important role in the successful implementation of this process, so that the country’s digital economy will represent 20 per cent of national GDP by 2025 and 30 per cent by 2030.
Prime Minister Chinh also hopes that the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) will pay attention to speeding up the process of international cooperation on digital transformation, supporting the governments of member countries to promote their role of guiding and leading the digital transformation process as well as accelerate public-private cooperation in the field.
Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung, meanwhile, told the gathering that developing digital transformation will help Vietnam’s economy develop quickly and sustainably in the current period. Moreover, innovation plays an important role in the digital economy as well as a digital society. Vietnam and ITU members commit to jointly promoting cooperation with a focus on digital transformation, narrowing the digital divide between countries.
It is also essential to quickly promote all activities regarding the digital environment in this digital transformation process. Vietnam will therefore prioritize digital infrastructure, access, and services to promote its digital transformation.
