Viettel to officially launch first 5G service in Vietnam
The coverage of 5G mobile network expected to reach 99% of the population by 2030 under the national digital infrastructure strategy.
The Viettel Military Industry and Telecoms Group (Viettel) plans to launch the first 5G service in Vietnam on October 15, with faster internet speeds and ultra-low latency.
However, users can now sign up for the service and experience high-speed connectivity in covered areas ahead of the official launch.
The 5G network theoretically tops out at 10 gigabits per second (Gbps), significantly faster than 4G. In practical conditions, 5G speeds could be around 1 Gbps, which is ten times faster than 4G.
In August, Viettel Telecoms, an affiliate of Viettel Group, announced that it successfully tested the first standalone 5G network in Vietnam. It was an important step for the company to officially commercialize the 5G network.
Meanwhile, VinaPhone has also provided the service for free for users in covered areas.
Under the digital infrastructure strategy to 2025 with a vision to 2030, which has been approved by Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh, the coverage of 5G mobile network is expected to reach all cities, provinces, high-tech zones, research and development centers, industrial parks, stations, ports and international airports by 2025 and 99% of the population by 2030.
