Application of Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures as required by WTO to be increased
The Government has approved a project on strengthening the enforcement of the WTO Agreement on the Application of Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures
Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang has approved project to strengthen the enforcement of the WTO Agreement on the Application of Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures (SPS Agreement) and SPS commitments within FTAs, the Government News has reported.
The project targets to achieve 70% application of sanitary, phytosanitary measures by 2025, and 100% by 2030.
Under the project, all personnel in food safety and animal and plant quarantine management agencies will receive training, and a national SPS portal will be formed.
Information exchange among cooperatives, businesses, associations, management agencies in localities and the national SPS system will be stepped up through a database.
To that end, the project sets forth a number of tasks and solutions such as raising stakeholders’ awareness of the SPS measures, strengthening the capacity of analyzing and assessing risks of food safety hazards and diseases, harmonizing domestic SPS regulations with international ones, and consolidating the national SPS system.
