Ben Tre annually earns $500 mln from coconut exports
The province boasting a coconut growing area of 79,000 ha.
Southern Ben Tre province has exported coconuts to 90 countries and territories, earning nearly $500 million annually, according to the provincial People’s Committee.
Total area of coconuts under cultivation reaches over 79,000 ha.
Determining coconut trees as one of the key industrial crops, the provincial authorities have taken heeds of establishing investment-attracting policies, and enhancing the application of scientific and technological advancements in coconut production and processing, aligned with domestic consumption needs and the international market, Mr. Tran Ngoc Tam, Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, said at conference held on August 16 with the theme ‘Ben Tre: Sustainable Green Development Toward Net Zero'.
According to experts, coconut is one among trees that can adapt well to climate change. Coconut trees are able to absorb carbon with an orientation toward low-carbon production.
With such a large area of coconut growth, Ben Tre has the potential to store from 1.9 to 5.8 million tons of CO2.
Figures from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development show that total area of coconut under cultivation in Vietnam reached 194,000 ha in 2022.
