Con Dao island district envisioned to become national tourism site
It expected to welcome 1-1.2 million tourists per year.
The Con Dao island district off southern Ba Ria-Vung Tau province will be developed into a national tourism site following the adjustment to the district’s master planning to 2045 which has been approved by the Prime Minister.
It will have comprehensive and modern infrastructure, according to the plan.
The plan is also aimed at promoting and protecting the forest, maritime and wetland biodiversity of the Con Dao National Park sustainably.
Con Dao will be divided into two zones with one being used for preservation of the natural ecosystem and the remaining will focus on tourism and socio-economic development.
Total area under planning is estimated at over 7,718 ha.
Total population of Con Dao is estimated at 24,500 by 2030 and 44,500 by 2045.
The island is expected to welcome 1-1.2 million tourists per year by 2030 and 1.7-2 million by 2045.
During the first half of 2024, Con Dao served more than 396,000 visitor arrivals and posted over VND1.5 trillion ($58.9 million) in tourism revenue, surging over 102% and nearly 105% over the same period last year, respectively.
