Southern city among the top 5 in the national Digital Transformation Index (DTI) in the three years since it began in 2020.
Ho Chi Minh City has made great progress in its digital transformation program, according to the southern city’s Department of Information and Communications. It has been among the top 5 in the national Digital Transformation Index, which measures digital transformation development in all ministries, agencies, and centrally-run localities nationwide, for three consecutive years since it began in 2020.
In 2022, its digital economy contributed 18.66 per cent to the city’s GRDP, ranking it seventh nationwide. Most recently, it was honored with an ASOCIO Digital Government Award 2023 from the Asian-Oceanian Computing Industry Organization (ASOCIO), held within the framework of the ASOCIO Digital Summit in Seoul, South Korea, from November 13-15.
The Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee approved a digital transformation program for the city on July 3, 2020, becoming the first centrally-run locality to do so.
The city has made major efforts to further accelerate its digital transformation program, with the target of becoming a smart city by 2025.
Director of the municipal Department of Information and Communications Lam Dinh Thang told a working session with supervisors from the municipal Vietnam Fatherland Front on November 16 that the city has strengthened three pillars in its digital transformation program - digital government, digital economy, and digital society - with the first being the focus, so as to provide online services for citizens and businesses in the most favorable way possible.
