The Halal market is emerging as one of the most promising frontiers for Vietnam, not only due to the enormous consumption scale of Muslims worldwide, but also because of the rising demand for Halal-certified products, ranging from food and beverages to cosmetics, tourism, finance, and education. This potential market is gradually being explored by countries across the globe, with Vietnam increasingly stepping up to the opportunity.

Recognizing this immense potential, Vietnamese ministries, agencies, and businesses have recently intensified trade promotion activities, sought partnerships, expanded distribution channels, and increased their presence in key Halal markets. Beyond goods, the tourism sector has begun shaping products and services tailored to the cultural and religious preferences of Muslim travelers, laying a solid foundation for Vietnam to become a welcoming destination on the global Halal tourism map.

A notable recent step was the signing of a comprehensive Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the end of May between the National Halal Certification Center (HALCERT), Vietnam Certification Centre (QUACERT) and MHGROUP Joint Stock Company. This was signed within the framework of the Vietnam-Singapore Halal Trade Seminar. The agreement aims to support training, provide Halal knowledge consultancy, and promote trade and tourism between Vietnam and Halal markets.

Under the MoU, MHGROUP will collaborate with HALCERT and QUACERT to implement training programs and guide Vietnamese enterprises through the necessary steps to obtain Halal certification - an essential requirement for entering Muslim markets. Once certified, MHGROUP will also assist companies in trade promotion, brand building, and expanding export markets.

In parallel, government authorities have stepped up their efforts. In April 2025, the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) held a conference on trade promotion with the Vietnamese trade office system abroad with the theme "Trade promotion to enhance exploitation of the global Halal product market". This event marked a significant step forward, helping Vietnamese businesses capture market trends, overcome barriers, and develop practical solutions to deepen their global Halal integration.

Likewise, at the end of March, the Import-Export Department under the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) also hosted a seminar titled “Halal - From Standards to Branding: New Opportunities for Vietnamese Exporters”. The workshop provided valuable insights into Halal standards, market trends, and strategic branding guidance for long-term market entry.

These recent proactive efforts come at a time when Vietnam is methodically building its Halal industry. In 2023, the Prime Minister approved a national plan titled “Strengthening International Cooperation to Develop Vietnam’s Halal Industry by 2030”, which outlines clear goals, orientations, and actionable strategies to explore the Halal market.

Currently, many major Halal-importing countries such as Indonesia, Malaysia, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and several African nations, are increasing imports of processed Halal food due to limited domestic supply. This presents an excellent export opportunity for Vietnam, a country with strong capabilities in agricultural, forestry, and fishery exports.

According to global forecasts, the Halal market could reach a scale of $10 trillion before 2030, while the Muslim population is expected to reach nearly 3 billion by 2050. Given this outlook, expanding trade promotion and building a well-structured Halal industry represents a strategic path forward, enabling Vietnam not only to boost export revenues but also to elevate its position in the global Muslim consumer market.
