A consortium has proposed to expand the Hanoi - Bac Giang expressway from current six lanes to 8 lanes to deal with rising traffic volume and meet local socio-economic development demand.

The investment  will be made in the form of public-private partnership (PPP), according to the proposal submitted by the consortium, which consists of Van Phu Investment JSC, Dong Son Infrastructure JSC, Vietnam Construction and Import-Export Joint Stock Corporation, and Dai Duong Group JSC.

The 46.28-km expressway was put into operation since 2016 and is operating beyond its designed capacity, causing frequent congestion, safety risks, and higher logistics costs, according to the consortium.

The expressway currently sees more than 53,000 vehicles daily, on average, exceeding its designed capacity. Traffic volume has increased by around 11% annually over the past three years.
