HCM City to pioneer Vietnam's first net-zero hi-tech park

Ho Chi Minh City is accelerating its green and digital transformation, aiming for Net Zero emissions. As part of this, the Saigon Hi-Tech Park (SHTP) is developing a pioneering project to become the country's first net-zero emissions model.

This initiative comes as Vietnam aims to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050 while facing global competitive pressures, said Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Quoc Cuong, Deputy Head of SHTP Management Board.

These pressures include rising ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) standards, demand for a transition to renewable energy, and explosion of digital technology, which is fundamentally changing all production and business activities.

The project's breakthrough, he said, lies in its approach: taking the goal of Net Zero by 2045 as a guiding principle to reorganize all its core pillars. These pillars include digital infrastructure, green infrastructure, renewable energy, a circular economy, open innovation, and regional connectivity.

The project is expected to be submitted to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee for approval in June.

"With its pioneering mission, this project won't be limited to the Hi-Tech Park. This will serve as a model that can be replicated across the more than 400 industrial parks nationwide," Mr. Cuong said.

After more than 20 years of development, the SHTP has attracted over 162 projects from multinational corporations such as Intel, Samsung, Schneider, Nidec, and Jabil. These projects have since contributed $20 billion in export revenue, accounting for 40% of the city's total export value.
