HCMC explores $5 mln fund for semiconductor workforce
The fund aims to train and upgrade the skills of approximately 40,000 engineers by 2030
The Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee has approved a plan to develop the semiconductor industry within the city’s High-Tech Park in the 2025-2030 period.
The initiative is designed to position the semiconductor sector as a new growth driver for the city’s economy, and to spearhead advancements in other industries. To achieve this goal, local authorities emphasize the importance of enhancing human resources alongside improved policies.
Therefore, the city has tasked relevant departments and agencies with exploring the establishment of a $5 million fund dedicated to developing the workforce for the semiconductor industry. The fund aims to train and upgrade the skills of approximately 40,000 engineers by 2030.
Simultaneously, the city will research and propose innovative and effective cooperation models and mechanisms for collaboration between units under the High-Tech Park management board and universities, research institutes, enterprises, and national semiconductor centers. This will enhance resources and capabilities in training and incubation.
Moreover, the city plans to share scientific and technological infrastructure, as well as leverage the expertise and management capacity of professionals involved in semiconductor development programs and projects at the High-Tech Park. The city will also finalize the establishment of a semiconductor training center that meets international standards.
With this plan, Ho Chi Minh City aims to transform the High-Tech Park into a national research and development center for the semiconductor industry by 2030, fostering a robust semiconductor ecosystem.
