Hoi An named among world's top 25 destinations: Travel+Leisure
The Vietnamese ancient city's picturesque streets adorned with yellow and brown ancient houses and illuminated by vibrant lanterns.
Hoi An City in central Quang Nam province was ranked fourth in the list of the top 25 destinations worldwide in the World’s Best Awards survey for 2024 by the renowned travel magazine Travel+Leisure, the Government News has reported.
Hoi An is the only city in Vietnam to make the list, achieving an impressive score of 90.67 points.
Travel+Leisure said that the coastal Vietnamese city which is a World Heritage site is ideal for foodies, with delicacies such as Banh Mi (baguette) and Cao Lau (Hoi An’s sacred noodle dish) being favourites with visitors.
Recognized by UNESCO as a World Cultural Heritage site, Hoi An is celebrated as one of the most bustling and prosperous trading ports from centuries past. The town's picturesque streets are adorned with yellow and brown ancient houses and illuminated by vibrant lanterns.
Hoi An is also famed for its unique Japanese Covered Bridge and various historical temples and shrines, such as Ong Pagoda, Ong Dia Shrine, Son Pho Temple, and Ngu Hanh Hy Hoa Shrine.
Rounding of the list of the top 25 was San Miguel de Allende of Mexico, Udaipur of India, Kyoto of Japan, Chiang Mai of Thailand, Florence of Italy, Bangkok of Thailand, Tokyo of Japan, Ubud of Indonesia, Oaxaca of Mexico, and San Sebastián and Marbella of Spain.
The World's Best Awards by Travel + Leisure, now in its 29th year, saw participation from over 186,000 voters. The cities on this prestigious list were evaluated based on criteria such as landmarks, culture, cuisine, friendliness, shopping, and overall value.
