Localities asked to reassess airport development planning

The Ministry of Transport (MoT) has requested that certain localities assess the feasibility and investment capital sources of airport development plans and report to the Prime Minister.

It said it has received airport development proposals from ten provinces: Ha Giang, Yen Bai, Tuyen Quang, Son La, Ha Tinh, Kon Tum, Quang Ngai, Khanh Hoa, Dak Nong, and Tay Ninh.

However, initial appraisals from MoT, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, and relevant agencies found that some proposals were unfeasible.

The Ministry said demand for transport infrastructure development is legitimate to boost local socio-economic development, but plans must be feasible and further study and assessment are needed.

The MoT and relevant agencies have proposed adding planning for Thanh Son Airport in south-central Ninh Thuan province and Bien Hoa Airport in southern Dong Nai province to the national airport development master plan for the 2021-2030 period with a vision to 2050.
