Mekong Delta Long An province is envisioned to become a dynamic, efficient, and sustainable economic development center in the southern region by 2030 following its master development plan in the 2021-2030 period with a vision towards 2050.

Under the master plan, which was announced at a conference held on July 25, the province is expected to be a gateway along the urban-industrial economic corridor of the Mekong Delta region closely connected with HCM City and the southeastern region.

It sets a target of posting average GDP growth of 9 per cent a year.

The province will also strive to become a crucial hub for cooperation and trade with Cambodia.

Long An is the first locality in the southern region had its development master plan approved.

Addressing the conference on master plan announcement and investment promotion of Long An province, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh set key tasks for the province to realize the master plan.

The province was instructed to manage and turn its potential into resources, overcome existing challenges, utilize its strengths and advantages effectively, and focus on promoting administrative reform, improving investment and business environment.

The locality should also strongly promote economic restructuring, improve productivity and competitiveness, and strengthen public-private partnerships with a focus on investing in socio-economic infrastructure and to play the role of a transshipment hub for the Mekong Delta region.

Attention must be paid to strengthening dialogue and promptly resolving difficulties and obstacles facing investors to facilitate their operations in the locality, PM Chinh said.
