Mr. Luong Cuong elected as President of Vietnam

The new President, aged 67, took the oath on October 21 afternoon.

The 15th-tenure National Assembly (NA), at its 8th session on October 21 afternoon, elected Mr. Luong Cuong, Politburo member and Permanent member of the Party Central Committee's Secretariat, as new President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

Taking the oath, the new President pledged to stay absolutely loyal to the Fatherland, the people, and the Constitution, and to exert efforts to fulfil the tasks assigned by the Party, the State, and the people.

After that, he delivered an inaugural address in front of the parliament.

General Luong Cuong, aged 67, enrolled in the army in 1975, and became Vice Director of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People’s Army in 2011 and its Director in 2016.

He is a member of the Party Central Committee in its 11th, 12th and 13th tenures (since January 2011 till now).

He was elected as a member of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat at the 12th National Party Congress in early 2016 and then as a Politburo member at the 13th National Party Congress in early 2021.  

He was assigned by the Politburo as Permanent member of the Party Central Committee's Secretariat in May this year.
