The Ministry of Transport has announced to develop a new inland port in northern mountainous Lao Cai province, which borders China to the north.

The Dong Pho Moi port will cover 50,000 sq m in Dong Pho Moi Industrial Park in the province’s Lao Cai city.

VIMIC Logistics Joint Stock Company is permitted to invest in building the port.

The port will feature a system of warehouses and yards and technical supporting infrastructure system to handle about 65,000 TEUs per year.

Under a master plan on the development of the inland port network nationwide during the 2021-2030 period and vision to 2050, the inland port network will be able to handle about 25-35% of demand for import and export container transport by 2030, with a total capacity of about 11.9-17.1 million TEUs a year.

Vietnam has so far put into operation eleven inland ports, including nine in the north and two in the south.
