Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has instructed the tourism sector to change its mindset and adopt creative measures to offer products and services tourists seek, to boost numbers and ensure rapid and sustainable development.

Chairing an online national conference on tourism on March 15, the government leader said it is necessary to diversify tourism products, markets, and supply chains while focusing on developing high-quality products with high added value.

He pointed to the need to identify solutions to accelerate tourism development in the time ahead, firstly to fulfill the target of welcoming 110 million visitors this year, including 8 million foreigners, and earning VND650 trillion ($27.65 billion) from the sector.

Vietnam served 101.3 million domestic visitors and 3.5 million foreign tourists last year, more than 23 per cent higher than the target. Total tourism revenue reached VND495 trillion ($20.7 billion).
