Resolution on constitutional amendments adopted
Under the newly amended constitution, there will be no district-level administrative units in Vietnam.
A resolution amending key provisions of the 2013 Constitution of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam was unanimously adopted by the 15th National Assembly (NA) at its ongoing sitting in Hanoi on June 16.
Under the newly amended Constituion, there will be no district-level administrative units in Vietnam.
The resolution stated that district-level administrative units nationwide will cease operations on July 1, 2025, while providing several transitional provisions.
As a result, there will be a two-tier local government system in Vietnam, consisting of provincial and commune levels.
Vice Chairman of the NA Nguyen Khac Dinh was quoted by the Vietnam News Agency as describing the resolution as a historic milestone, marking the start of sweeping institutional reform and laying the constitutional foundation for a leaner and more effective political system. He stressed that it will set the stage for building a powerful and prosperous Vietnam where its citizens live in happiness.
