Customs revenue exceeded the target in 2021 and reached VND370 trillion ($16.23 billion), an increase of 19.2 per cent compared to 2020. The sector has set a target of VND352 trillion ($15.42 billion) in revenue in 2022.
FPT posted revenue in October of VND3.262 trillion ($145.23 million), with net profit of VND538 billion ($23.95 million), up 32 per cent and 18 per cent year-on-year, respectively. Net profit in the first ten months came in at VND4.323 trillion ($192.2 million), up 19.3 per cent year-on-year. It also signed a $40 million, two-year contract in October to develop the Smart Nation model for the Singaporean Government.
Revenue in the information and communications technology (ICT) industry reached nearly $98 billion in the first nine months of this year. It has been forecast that revenue for the year as a whole may reach the target of being 2-3 times higher than Vietnam’s GDP growth.
The customs sector’s State budget contribution totaled more than VND285.6 trillion ($12.57 billion) in the first nine months of 2021, equal to 90.6 per cent of the estimate. The sector will attempt to post VND335 trillion ($14.74 billion) for the year as a whole, exceeding the target by VND20 trillion ($880.81 million).
Tax revenues from the 23 localities that contribute 70 per cent of total State budget revenue have fallen substantially due to social distancing and suspended production. The General Department of Taxation will therefore promote tax collections on commercial business activities through e-commerce and digital platforms.
While many economic sectors continue to face a raft of difficulties from Covid-19, Vietnam’s e-commerce sector has recorded impressive revenue growth. According to the E-commerce White Book 2021, B2C e-commerce revenue has risen sharply over the last five years, reaching $11.8 billion in 2020, an increase of 18 per cent compared to 2019. The sector is forecast to post revenue of $29 billion in 2025, up 34 per cent against 2020. Vietnam has recorded strong growth in both the percentage of people using the internet and the number of consumers shopping online in recent years, as well as in the value of online shopping.
