Vietnam achieves record-high pepper export revenue in 2024
The US emerged as Vietnam's largest pepper export market in 2024, followed by the UAE, Germany, the Netherlands, and India.
Vietnam's pepper exports reached a new milestone in 2024, generating a record revenue of $1.32 billion.
In January 2025, export prices for pepper remained high, increasing by over 30% compared to mid-2024.
According to the Vietnam Pepper and Spices Association (VPSA), the country exported 15,265 tons of pepper in December 2024, bringing in $100.6 million. For the entire year of 2024, Vietnam exported 250,600 tons of pepper, achieving an all-time high in export revenue, as reported above ($1.32 billion).
Although the pepper export volume in 2024 decreased by 5.1% compared to 2023, the export value saw a substantial increase of 45.4%. Black pepper exports totaled 220,269 tons, generating $1.18 billion, while white pepper exports reached 30,331 tons, contributing $200.6 million to the overall export value.
"Export prices for pepper reached unprecedented heights, with an average export price of $5,280 per ton in 2024," stated the VPSA. "Black pepper was priced at $5,154 per ton, a 49.7% increase from 2023, while white pepper reached $6,884 per ton, a 38.9% increase compared to the previous year."
In terms of markets, the United States emerged as Vietnam's largest pepper export market in 2024, with 72,311 tons accounting for 28.9% of the total. This represents a 33.2% increase from 2023 and sets a new record, surpassing the previous peak year of 2021, when 59,778 tons were exported. Other significant markets include the UAE, Germany, the Netherlands, and India.
