Vietnam Approves $118 Million Expansion of Key North-South Expressway
The La Son-Hoa Lien expansion will increase capacity and reduce accidents on the economically vital transportation corridor.
In an effort to bolster Vietnam's infrastructure and boost its economic development, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha has approved a $118 million (VND 3,011 billion) to expand the La Son - Hoa Lien section of the North-South Expressway. This crucial transportation artery connects key economic hubs and is vital for national defense and security.
The 65km expansion project falls under Resolutions No. 66/2013/QH13 and No. 63/2022/QH15 by the National Assembly, showcasing the government's commitment to infrastructural upgrades. The project is planned with a targeted completion date in 2025.
The expansion is aimed at increasing transport capacity, reducing traffic accidents, and improving the overall efficiency of the North-South Expressway. When completed, this section of the expressway will work in tandem with the Cam Lo-La Son and Da Nang-Quang Ngai highways to further enhance connectivity throughout the region.
The Ministry of Transport will manage the expansion project, which is categorized as a group A public investment funded by the state budget. Responsibilities of the ministry include preparing the feasibility study, ensuring transparency in project execution, coordinating with provincial governments, and overseeing environmental impact assessments.
The Ministry of Planning and Investment is tasked with appraising the project's pre-feasibility study report, balancing capital resources, and monitoring the project's lawful execution.
Meanwhile, the People's Committees of the Thua Thien Hue and Da Nang provinces will oversee land clearance, resettlement, and any necessary changes in land use purposes.
This expansion project underscores the Vietnamese government's proactive approach to strengthening the country's infrastructure. Improved transportation networks like the North-South Expressway facilitate domestic trade, attract foreign investors, and support Vietnam's continued economic growth.
