Vietnam-China agro-forestry-fishery trade hits $6.2 bln in 5M

The bilateral trade revenue of ago-forestry-fishery products between Vietnam and China totaled $6.2 billion in the first five months of 2024, a year-on-year increase of 2.9%.

The figure was released at talks between Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Hoang Trung and Vice Minister of the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC) Zhao Zenglian on June 6 to enhance the two sides’ agro-forestry-fishery trade.

Vietnam’s exports of the products to China were estimated at $4.6 billion, up 8.6% year-on-year, while imports from China reached $1.6 billion, skyrocketing 31.5% year-on-year.

The two sides agreed to step up cooperation in agricultural commerce and market access.

Both committed to completing procedures to sign a protocol on phytosanitary requirements for Vietnamese fresh coconuts and frozen durians to be exported to China.

Regarding Vietnam’s passion fruit and chilies, which have been exported on a trial basis, both sides will accelerate the finalization of procedures to formally sign their related documents soon.

The two sides agreed to work together to finalize protocols for exporting crocodiles, unprocessed Salangane nests, poultry, and wild-caught seafood from Vietnam to China.

They also agreed on solutions to resolve challenges related to Chinese sturgeon exports to Vietnam.

At the talks,  a bilateral protocol on quarantine requirements for monkeys exported from Vietnam to China was signed, while  technical negotiations between the two sides on a protocol on phytosanitary requirements for Vietnamese fresh coconuts to be exported to China were also concluded.
