Vietnam, Egypt to explore Free Trade Agreement following the upgrade of bilateral ties
The relationship between the two countries have been upgraded to Comprehensive Partnership.
Vietnam and Egypt have agreed to establish a joint Working Group to explore the feasibility of negotiating a Vietnam–Egypt Free Trade Agreement (FTA), in a move aimed at boosting bilateral trade and investment flows.
The decision was announced during a working session between Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Phan Thi Thang and Egypt’s Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Hassan El Khatib, held on the sidelines of President Luong Cuong’s State visit to Egypt from August 3–6.
The visit marked a milestone in the Vietnam - Egypt relations, which has been officially upgraded to a Comprehensive Partnership.
Egypt is currently Vietnam’s largest trading partner in North Africa. In 2024, bilateral trade reached $472.6 million, up 9.4% year-on-year. In the first half of 2025, two-way trade value climbed 8% to $266.9 million.
Vietnam’s key export items to Egypt include coffee, mobile phones and accessories, computers, electronics, seafood, and pepper.
