Vietnam’s export of wood and wood products to China has increased significantly over the past years and is estimated to reach $1.88 billion in 2024, according to Vice Chairman and General Secretary of the Vietnam Timber and Forest Products Association (Viforest) Ngo Sy Hoai.
China remains the leading wood trade partner of Vietnam, he said while addressing a dialogue held in Hanoi on December 20 to discuss the development of the wood supply chain between the two countries.
The wood import turnover from China kept rising, from $258 million in 2015 to $760 million in 2023. In the first 11 months of the year, the import value reached $938 million.
He proposed Vietnam and China to increase information exchange and cooperation to ensure sustainable forest management, and legal wood processing and trading activities.
