The project also aims to renovate and expand the existing passenger terminal to a capacity of 500,000 passengers per year.
Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha has signed Decision No 1188/QD-TTg, approving the investment policy for the project to expand and upgrade Ca Mau Airport, located in the southernmost province of Ca Mau, the Voice of Vietnam reported.
The project aims to enhance the airport’s infrastructure to accommodate A320, A321 and equivalent aircraft; serving as a catalyst for economic, cultural and social development while ensuring national defense security for the locality and the region.
With an investment capital of approximately VND 2,4 trillion (over $95.6 million), entirely funded by the Vietnam Airlines Corporation (ACV)'s equity, the project investor, the initiative includes the construction of a new runway measuring 2,400 m by 45 m, capable of supporting A320, A321, and similar aircraft. Additional infrastructure includes a connecting taxiway to the aircraft parking area and five waiting taxiways, and the southern aircraft parking area for A320, A321 and equivalent aircraft.
The project also aims to renovate and expand the existing passenger terminal to a capacity of 500,000 passengers per year, with the potential for further expansion to accommodate up to one million passengers annually.
The passenger terminal’s construction area will be approximately 2,668 sq.m, with a total floor area of about 4,200 sq.m across two floors, reaching a height of approximately 9.5 m.
Additionally, the project includes the construction of several supporting facilities, such as a road connecting the new aircraft parking area to the passenger terminal, a remote vehicle parking area, a fire rescue station, a security fence system, a ring road, and other synchronized infrastructure.
