Construction of cargo terminal of Long Thanh Airport project to start next January
Technical design and contractor selection expected for completion in the fourth quarter of 2024.
Construction work on the cargo terminal No.1 of the Long Thanh International Airport project in southern Dong Nai province is scheduled to start in January, 2025, according to the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV).
Technical designs and selection of contractors are expected for completion in the fourth quarter of this year.
Construction is expected to complete by August, 2026.
The ACV reported that 66% of construction work of the passenger terminal, the main contract package of the first phase of the airport project, has been completed and is expected for completion before December, 2025. Trial operation is slated for early 2026.
The Long Thanh International Airport project will have total investment of an estimated VND336.63 trillion ($13.42 billion), with construction divided into three phases.
The first phase has total investment of nearly VND110 trillion ($4.38 billion), with construction of the passenger terminal and a runway getting underway last August.
The terminal will be able to cater to 25 million passengers and handle 1.2 million tons of cargo a year.
The airport (first phase) is expected to be put into official operation in early June 2026.
The second phase will build one more runway and one more passenger terminal to increase the airport’s capacity to serve 50 million passengers and handle 1.5 million tons of cargo annually.
The third phase will complete other works to enhance its capacity to 100 million passengers and 5 million tons of cargo.
