HCMC aims to become leading regional tech hub

As Vietnam’s leading economic, scientific, and technological hub, Ho Chi Minh City holds significant advantages in driving science and technology policies, innovation, and digital transformation, said Mr. Huynh Thanh Dat, Deputy Head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Information, Education and Mass Mobilization.
Mr. Dat made this statement during a scientific conference on March 11, focusing on the implementation of the Politburo’s Resolution 57-NQ/TW, which emphasizes breakthrough development in science, technology, innovation, and national digital transformation.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Lam Dinh Thang, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Science and Technology, highlighted the city’s growing startup ecosystem.

The city's innovation ecosystem is gaining strength and edging closer to being ranked among the Top 100 cities globally with the most dynamic startup and innovation ecosystems. Science and technology contribute 47% to the city’s economic growth, while investment in these sectors accounts for 1% of its GRDP.
Resolution 57 presents a critical opportunity for Ho Chi Minh City to achieve even greater breakthroughs. By leveraging science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation, the city aims to unlock resources to drive socio-economic growth. The ultimate goal is to position the city as one of the most livable cities in Vietnam and the region.
