Japanese PM Ishiba begins first official visit to Vietnam

Japan is currently a leading economic partner of Vietnam; therefore, topics such as improving the investment environment, promoting supply chains, and expanding markets for each other's goods will be emphasized.

Japanese Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru and his spouse, accompanied by a high-level Japanese delegation, arrived in Vietnam on April 27 for a three-day official visit from April 27 to 29.

Made at the invitation of Vietnamese Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính and his spouse, this visit marks PM Ishiba's first trip to Vietnam since taking office.

Speaking to the press about PM Ishiba's visit, Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam Ito Naoki stated that the visit aims to strengthen relations with Southeast Asia, as it is currently a growth center of the world economy and occupies an important strategic position. This is also a top priority for Japanese diplomacy, especially with Vietnam.

The Japanese government hopes that this visit will provide an opportunity for Japanese leaders, specifically PM Ishiba, to further strengthen personal trust with Vietnamese leaders, as well as affirm the enhancement of bilateral cooperation in areas such as national security and defense, economy, and addressing regional and international challenges.

According to Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan Pham Quang Hieu, within the framework of this visit, the leaders of the two countries will focus on in-depth discussions regarding strategic cooperation areas.

Japan continues to support and assist Vietnam in implementing three strategic breakthroughs in institutions, infrastructure, and human resources, helping Vietnam industrialize and modernize. Among these, economic, trade, and investment cooperation is the most important pillar in the bilateral relationship.

The two sides are striving to soon open their markets to Vietnamese pomelos and Japanese grapes; at the same time, they will exchange views on the possibility of further opening markets for other fruits and agricultural products of both sides, such as Vietnamese passion fruit and Japanese peaches. In addition, the two sides will discuss new pillars in their cooperation relationship to suit the new situation.
