Ninh Binh proposes expansion to Mai Son - National Highway 45 expressway section
Vehicle numbers along section of North-South Expressway in Vietnam’s north continue to increase.
The Ninh Binh Provincial People’s Committee has proposed that the Ministry of Transport expand the Mai Son - National Highway No. 45 section of the North-South Expressway to prevent traffic congestion.
The Mai Son - National Highway No. 45 section is 63.37-km long, including 14.35 km in Ninh Binh province and 49.02 km in neighboring north-central Thanh Hoa province.
Total investment was over VND12 trillion ($506 million).
Construction began in September 2020 and the expressway was opened to traffic in April 2023.
However, the volume of vehicles using the route has continued upwards and it is forecast to become overloaded in the future, according to the provincial People’s Committee.
There is also no emergency lane, it added, to provide support in the event of an accident.
