Renovation of polluted canal in HCMC to get underway in August
Total investment in project putting Xuyen Tam Canal in good order estimated at $400 million.
The Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee has asked relevant agencies to accelerate the implementation of a project renovating the polluted Xuyen Tam Canal to improve the city’s urban environment.
The canal runs through Go Vap and Binh Thanh districts at a total length of nearly 9 km.
Total investment in the endeavor is estimated at more than VND9.6 trillion ($400 million).
The contract package for the section running through Go Vap district is scheduled to start in August this year and be completed by April 2025, while the section through Binh Thanh district is to begin in April 2025 and be finished by April 2028.
Work includes dredging and cleaning up the canal and building a wastewater collection and drainage system, a new road on each side with green areas and parks, and technical infrastructure.
