Siemens marked the 30th anniversary of its official establishment in Vietnam with an Appreciation Dinner on August 16 in Ho Chi Minh City.

This was a unique opportunity for Siemens to commemorate its achievements in the country and express its sincere gratitude to its Vietnamese partners for their strong support and trust over the past three decades. It was also an opportunity for the German giant to re-emphasize its commitment to supporting Vietnam in improving smart infrastructure, accelerating digital transformation, and promoting sustainability.

“We are proud to have contributed remarkably to Vietnam’s urban infrastructure and socio-economic development for the past three decades, transforming the everyday for millions of customers and partners so they become more competitive, profitable, and sustainable,” said Mr. Matthias Rebellius, a Member of the Management Board at Siemens AG and CEO of Smart Infrastructure. “As we enter a new decade of presence in Vietnam, we look forward to accelerating the country’s progress towards a greener future.”

Siemens has a strong footprint in Vietnam and is involved in many of the country’s key infrastructure works, ranging from energy, healthcare, and manufacturing to buildings, water, and transportation.

The company has contributed extensively to the development of Vietnam’s energy sector, ensuring stable energy supply by participating in important power projects, ranging from fossil fuel to wind and solar. Power plants using Siemens gas turbines, such as the 740 MW Phu My 3 Combined Cycle Power Plant (CCPP), the 1,500 MW Ca Mau 1 & 2 CCPP, and the 750 MW Nhon Trach 2 CCPP, are among the most efficient in Vietnam, with a high reliability of more than 95 per cent. Siemens has also helped energize the largest solar power plant in Vietnam, Trung Nam - Thuan Nam, which is expected to contribute about 1 billion kWh of electricity to the national grid each year.

Mr. Pham Thai Lai, President and CEO of Siemens ASEAN & Vietnam, said it is privileged to have grown with Vietnam over the last 30 years, doing its part to help build the country and help it become one of the most dynamic emerging countries in Asia.

“We are thankful for the strong cooperation and support from many stakeholders, including the Vietnamese and German Governments, partners, customers, and suppliers, as well as our very dedicated employees,” Mr. Lai said. “We are committed to strengthening our presence in Vietnam and continuing to support it on its journey of digital transformation and sustainable development.”

In the area of healthcare, the Siemens Healthineers diagnostic imaging systems contribute significantly to improving the quality of healthcare services for the Vietnamese people. Examples include the supply of advanced diagnostic imaging solutions to Can Tho Stroke International Services and the installation of a total lab automation system designed to power end-to-end diagnostic testing and increase workflow efficiency at Cho Ray Hospital.

Siemens’ automation and digitalization solutions help Vietnamese customers in water treatment, food and beverages, paper, cement, machinery, chemicals, metals, and other industries to significantly enhance their productivity, energy efficiency, and competitiveness. For instance, Siemens’ SIMOCRANE Crane Management System of hardware and software enables Saigon New Port - the biggest container port in Vietnam - to maximize its productivity, thus reducing vessel release times remarkably.

Siemens also actively supports Vietnam in its digital transformation journey and embracing Industry 4.0. Siemens’ Digital Enterprise portfolio has helped VinFast to fulfill its ambition of building the first Made-in-Vietnam vehicle in record time. The Thuy Nguyen 220 kV substation is the first 220 kV digital substation of Vietnam’s transmission grid to be equipped with Siemens Process Bus technology, thus enabling it to provide a more secure, efficient, flexible, and intelligent electric system.

Sustainability is a key part of Siemens’ strategy and deeply embedded in the company’s activities. This is evidenced by its innovative solutions that make electricity generation, buildings, and plants more energy efficient and sustainable. Siemens’ Combined Cycle Power technology helps Vietnam reduce carbon dioxide emissions by nearly 5 million tons while its building technology has enabled customers to achieve energy savings of 20-30 per cent.

In particular, Siemens’ building management system helped the German House in Ho Chi Minh City become one of the greenest and most energy-efficient office buildings in Vietnam. Siemens also supplied technology and components to locally manufacture electrical traction drive systems used in VinFast’s electric buses, thus contributing to a greener urban environment.
