Lazada Vietnam and the Office for Business Sustainable Development at the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) have released the 2023 e-commerce report entitled “Sustainable development in eCommerce: Driving force for the digital economy”.

The report was prepared to provide e-commerce businesses and communities with an overview of the potential, improvements in efficiency, and the importance of sustainable development practices in e-commerce; the role of e-commerce in sustainable development for the digital economy; and insights and trends for sustainable development in e-commerce.

According to the report, the digital economy is making great changes to Vietnam’s economy in both production methods and structure, promoting breakthrough growth and expanding the larger economy. Therefore, the task of developing the digital economy and digital society is a high priority in national development strategies.

E-commerce is an important part of the digital economy. In recent years, especially since Covid-19, e-commerce has grown strongly, become a pioneer field leading the digital economy, and is forecast to account for 65 per cent of the value of Vietnam’s digital economy by 2025 (according to data in reports from Google, Temasek, and Bain & Company). However, in order to post further achievements, sustainable development is an inexorable trend.

The report offered expert perspectives and analysis on four areas for sustainable development in e-commerce, highlighting the importance of e-commerce in driving sustainable development for the digital economy and contributing to promoting sustainable development for the national economy.

The four areas are: (1) Sustainable business development; (2) Sustainable infrastructure development; (3) High-quality digital-savvy human resources development; and (4) Development and implementation of new technologies to improve the customer experience.

“With the current economic uncertainties, sustainable development has become one of the leading and critical goals for Lazada and for the national e-commerce industry,” said Mr. Dang Anh Dung, Deputy CEO of Lazada Vietnam. “Recognizing that we have a role and responsibility, as a large e-commerce platform in Vietnam, to support businesses and sellers transform digitally and drive digital consumption, we cooperated with VCCI and experts to develop the 2023 eCommerce Report.”

“We hope the report will become a useful, insightful reference for organizations, businesses, and individuals interested in learning about the e-commerce industry, helping them to promptly seize opportunities and trends in sustainable development and effectively implement sustainable development practices in their plans for growth. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to VCCI and experts who cooperated with Lazada in the development of the report, and we truly hope for further cooperative opportunities in the future.”
