Tourism getting back on its feet
Tourism activities have begun to gradually recover since the start of 2022.
Many localities are now preparing to welcome tourists, and especially domestic tourists, once more.
On the morning of January 1, some 200 domestic tourists came to Ho Chi Minh City. Their number was small compared to the pre-pandemic period, but it was a special event for the city, because tourism activities had been frozen for two years due to Covid-19.
Ho Chi Minh City’s tourism industry was never passive during the challenges and difficulties posed by the pandemic, according to a representative from the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism. The Department coordinated with major travel companies to enable the construction and renewal of many domestic tourism products to attract tourists during the 2022 new year and lunar new year (Tet) holidays.
In northern Quang Ninh province, home of Ha Long Bay and also hit hard by the pandemic, tourism is already showing signs of “thawing”.
On the first day of 2022, Tuan Chau International Passenger Port, which serves vessels plying the bay, welcomed nearly 1,600 visitors. To continue to stimulate tourism demand, Quang Ninh has cut entry fees to famous tourism sites in half. It is estimated that during the first three days of the new year of 2022, tourist attractions catered to thousands of visitors.
In northern Lao Cai province, home of the popular hill town of Sa Pa, tourism has also begun to be active once more, with the number of domestic tourists rising sharply during the new year.
According to information from the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, from January 1-3, average occupancy at accommodation providers was an estimated 40 per cent. The total number of visitors to Lao Cai during the first three days of the new year was over 30,000.
Another famous tourist destination attracting large numbers of domestic tourists during the new year was Phu Quoc Island in the Mekong Delta’s Kien Giang province.
An estimated 60,000 tourists came to relax and welcome in 2022, including some 1,000 international tourists visiting under the “vaccine passport” program.
