Transport ministry working to secure approval of high-speed North-South railway in 2024
Total investment capital in major infrastructure project estimated at some $58.71 billion.
The Ministry of Transport (MoT) is striving to submit a proposal to authorized agencies this year on approving the North-South high-speed railway project.
This forms part of the MoT’s action plan this year, which it recently issued to implement Government Resolution No.1 on solutions and tasks to carry out socio-economic development and meet State budget estimates in 2024.
The North-South high-speed railway will stretch 1,545 km and have a speed limit of about 320 kph, with total investment capital estimated at some $58.71 billion.
The ministry will also target putting into operation the elevated sections of two major urban railway projects in the country: the Nhon - Hanoi Railway Station metro line in Hanoi, and Metro Line No. 1 in Ho Chi Minh City, which runs between Ben Thanh Station in District 1 and Suoi Tien Depot in Thu Duc city.
It has also set a target of speeding up construction of key national transport projects under its management, such as sections of the Eastern North-South Expressway and Sub-project No. 2 of the Khanh Hoa - Buon Ma Thuot Expressway as well as the Bien Hoa - Vung Tau Expressway.
Measures will be taken to accelerate construction of Ring Road No. 4 in Hanoi, Ring Road No. 3 in Ho Chi Minh City, Long Thanh International Airport in southern Dong Nai province, and the Terminal No. 3 at Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City.
The ministry will work to open at least 130 km of expressways to traffic this year.
