Vietnam aims to become regional logistics center

Logistics is an important service within the country’s economic structure.

The government has asked relevant ministries, agencies, and sectors to take measures to promote Vietnam’s geological advantages and enhance links to develop the country into a key logistics center in the region.

This is part of Government Resolution No. 163 signed recently by Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai on improving competitiveness and developing logistics services in Vietnam.

The Resolution states that logistics is an important service sector in the country’s economic structure, playing an important role in supporting, connecting, and promoting socioeconomic development of the country as a whole and of each locality.

It also states that important measures include strengthening connectivity, developing different modes of transport, maximizing rationally-developed modes of transport, and improving multimodal transport and cross-border transport to reduce costs and improve the quality of transport services.

The Resolution requires the Ministry of Transport to ensure the synchronization of the transport infrastructure network for the development of logistics services.

The Ministry of Finance is instructed to review and remove obstacles relating to tax and fee policies to create the best possible conditions for businesses providing logistics services. It was also asked to coordinate with other ministries and sectors to promote trade facilitation and simplify customs procedures and administrative procedures.
